Halloween Carnival & Soccer

Last night the kids school put on their annual Halloween Carnival.  Maddison invited her friend from Montessori along and hey had a great time doing the games and collecting plenty of candy!  :-)

When we arrived I had to go straight to a game as I was to man that stand for 20 minutes, so the kids played (witches toss) and then were really good and sat and waited for me.

Then we did a quick tour of some of the hallways that had been decorated and the girls went off to dance :-)  Spot the werewolf behind them!!

 They also made lollypop ghosts.

Hunted for candy in the rice box (they use rice instead of sand).

 Did some more dancing ... here they are waiting for the dry ice fog to appear :-)

 Lyndon ... oh sorry ... the Werewolf was very popular with the Asians for photo shoots!  If he charged RM1 for each photo he was asked to pose for I reckon we could have eaten out tonight!  hehee  There was also a couple of clowns that made up balloon animals, swords etc. for the kids.

I decided to wear Aaron's skeleton suit that he wore last year ... this year he wanted to be a Storm Trooper.   Maddison was a pink witch and her friend was Cleopatra (she left the cape and head piece at home though).

This morning Aaron had soccer, so we all went down to watch :-)  He was having quite a conversation with this friend!  haha

 They practiced throwing the ball the correct way.

And then using their forehead to hit the ball.  So funny to watch them (most shut their eyes and opened their mouth hehee).

 Samuel had a great time gathering up the spare soccer balls!

Trick or Treat and UN Concert

I have shared some of these pictures on Facebook yesterday and today, but wanted to blog them too.

Yesterday was Halloween and one of the Mum's from Maddison's class and I decided to trick or treat the kids :-)  So I spent most of the day on Tuesday baking gingerbread men ... they were going to be "gingerdead" cookies (see here for picture of that), but after about 10 attempts trying to get the cookie cutter working and only one success (large cookie in the photo below) I gave up and just made regular gingerbread men.  I've used the cutter in New Zealand without any problems, but here it was hopeless, even freezing the dough didn't help.  It's just too humid.

Tuesday night I iced them ... there were about 120 or so!

On Wednesday Aaron took a bunch of them individually wrapped for his class mates and teachers.

Samuel had dress up day so he went off growling like a pirate hehee

And in the afternoon I turned into a wolf ...

and scared Little Red Riding Hood!  ;-)

Little Red Riding Hood went into class first (we had another Mum already in class with the video that's why no pictures of what actually happened!) and then I went in dressed as the wolf.  The kids were really scared to start with and I didn't advance too far into the room because I didn't want to cause too much mayhem!  Little Red Riding Hood got them to help her shoo the wolf out though and he disappeared and turned into a witch instead!  ;-)

The nose got a bit hot though, so had to leave it hanging round my neck!

Kids enjoyed the cookies!  I took 40 to class and only had 3 left at the finish!!  

Great fun :-)

Today the kids elementary school had a United Nations Assembly and 14 different countries took part in doing a performance that was related to their home country.  This year there are quite a few "kiwis" at the school, so it was quite fun watching the kids practice (or not!) in preparation for today.  One of the Mum's got the ribbon sent over from NZ and we had dresses and "skirts" made here for the kids.  My Mum bought and made enough headbands for everyone (thanks Mum) and someones whanau back in NZ made pois for the girls and sent them over :-)

We had a last minute practice at 8am (I won't tell you how hard it was to get 3 kids plus myself out the door in time to ensure we got a park at school before then!!!).  But we made it ... phew!

I was videoing the performance and had Samuel on my knee, he decided he wanted to stay with me rather than go with Aaron.  So I found it hard to take photos with him there, the video in one hand, and man-handle my big DSLR with the other hand.  The only photo I managed of Maddison performing was blurry, but I took this one later outside and it shows her twirling her pois :-)

Amazed that I managed to catch this shot of Aaron with his tongue poking out, because it's not out for very long at all on the video!  My little pale face Maori was so cute up there with the big boys doing the haka :-)  So proud of them both for getting up in front of everyone without succumbing to stage fright!

Fun morning :-)  and if anyone has the need of a Maori headband let me know ... I have some spares hehee ;-)

Halloween

Trying to do a bit of a catch up ! So here's some pics of this year's Halloween activities.

One afternoon I spent the afternoon with Aaron's class doing "pumpkin math" and this also included carving the pumpkin for the school's Halloween party. I have never carved a pumpkin before and it's quite hard! (well I thought it was) Anyway it turned out okay and Aaron approved it because I gave it angry eyebrows hehee

I didn't take a lot of photos this year at the school's Halloween party because Lyndon had Samuel in the pram and I had charge of Aaron & Maddison! I was busy enough keeping my eyes on them in amongst all the people. They had fun and got plenty of candy! The first activity was apple bobbing, but I was a bit dubious of the water so they were allowed to close their eyes and find a candy with their hand.

There were a couple of clowns there making all sorts of things for the kids with balloons. So just before we left Aaron got some sort of gun and Maddison got a poodle. Samuel was out to it so we didn't bother getting one for him :-)
The next day was Saturday and we went down to the "Dragon's Lair" at the mall.
They had heaps of Halloween Carnival booths set up and you bought a bunch of tickets and tried out the games and you could win prizes. The kids had a wonderful time and won so much stuff! They got something at every booth they tried, most of them were consolation prizes. But the first one they tried they both won something they really wanted.

Maddison had to pull up the guillotine and let it fall and stop it on the red line.
She won an awesome dolls house and Aaron got a GUN! (save me!)
On Monday 31st Maddison had Halloween dress up at her school, so she went as a princess again :-)
So that was Halloween for us this year!

This'n That

Before I update on what we have been up to. For those that have asked, yes of course I will let you know how this cool packaged pavlova turns out. Unfortunately it won't be for a few weeks because (a) it serves 6 and Lyndon is away for 3 weeks and (b) I am trying to loose weight so don't want to make it without some adults to share it with. hehee :-)

When Samuel and I take Maddison to school he has this little routine he seems to follow! First he likes to play with the taps and wash his hands while Maddison gets her bag put away, then on the way to her class he checks out the cookie container!

And this tray is what he seems to go for first. On Wednesday Maddison helped him carry it to the desk and he got up on the chair and starting "cutting" the fruit and veges hehehee

Wednesday after school one of Aaron's school mates had invited us to his 7th birthday. I offered to pick him up from school as his Mum has 2 other little kids as well. I ended up having 5 kids in the car ... I will let you imagine the noise levels! What a racket! There was no mute button either - they were so excited to be together and yelled and laughed all the way to the party!

During the week I remembered that for some bizarre reason my wedding shoes ended up coming to Malaysia with us instead of being in storage. So I got them out for Maddison to play with. What a little madam! She thinks they are wonderful! (Apparently you have to put shoes on before your hair gets done!)

I have been looking a bit bigger place to live. Samuel has been along for the ride, but I don't mind taking him because he can't tell the others about it heheee. This particular place had a slide into the toddlers swimming pool and if Aaron had seen it I would never have heard the end of it! I am sure he would have signed up for it right then and there! Hoping for better luck next week with more suitable places. Fingers crossed anyway!

This afternoon Aaron's class had a Halloween craft session. They were making things in preparation for decorating the corridor outside their class for the Halloween party at the end of the month. Some of the mums had also made a "Witch Hilda" house which was really well done. They blindfolded the kids one at a time and took them inside to excite their senses!!
Aaron was scared a bit, so we took his blindfold off. There was jelly for brains, chicken bones for bones, noodles for intestines and peeled grapes for eyes! One of the boys didn't want to go inside at all and was convinced there actually was a real witch in there! I said there wasn't really, it was just fantasy remember. I grinned at him and said I thought the witch might be the teacher heheheee ;-) (hope she didn't hear me say that lol)
After they had been in Witch Hilda's house they were given some witches brew (ice-cream and fizz mixed together!!)
For their crafts they made ghosts (of course Aaron's had an evil face)!!
A spider (yet another evil face) and a bat (with an Aaron face hehee)
So that's a little what we have been doing. Aaron has next week off on school holidays we have a couple of play dates lined up, but I have the feeling he's expecting a play date every day! (He's going to be disappointed with that!).
