What a week!

I last posted Monday night - Tuesday's agenda was pretty much as scheduled, except in the afternoon the plumber came and made a hideous noise for what seemed like hours while he drilled out tiles from the wall to try and find the leak in our bathroom. After about 3 tiles he stopped and went away leaving a mess!

.

I have to show these photos because they made me smile ... on Monday walking back home from the supermarket Maddison fell over and grazed her knee. It wasn't bad, but it was a big patch and because it's never happened before it was obviously something to make a fuss about according to her anyway! ;-) I put some medicated ointment on it and 3 bandaids (you know balloons and bandaids are wonderful things to stop tears hehee) on Monday night and Tuesday morning she pulled them off and asked for new ones ... she went off to school like this:

Holding her dress up and walking on tip-toes with that foot just so no-one could miss that she had a sore knee!
When I picked her up from school she had the bandaids taped on! They kept falling off and she would cry so the teacher taped them on for her!
Samuel and I moved back into the master bedroom on Tuesday night, and at 5.30am I was woken by the noise of fast dripping water! Our air conditioning unit was pouring water out one end! So I leaped out of bed, turned it off and got the silk rug out of the way before it got any wetter, then I scrambled around finding some old towels to mop up the mess. Yawn!

Wednesday ... an early start! After the kids were at school I got back home and opened the cupboard under the sink to get out my cake mixer and discovered a pool of water! Honestly I couldn't believe it! Seriously - how many leaks do I need to deal with this week?????

I phoned the maintenance manager and asked him to come up and have a look and he was very kind and after checking it he sent up his side kick (for want of a better word) to fix it. It was just the base of the tap that needed tightening. So that's all good now, thankfully!

.

Plumber came back in the afternoon and more tiles were drilled. No sleep for the kids! Our bathroom now looks like this.

After taking off those tiles he took off one in the service room that backs onto our bathroom but couldn't find any evidence of water leakage there. So he turned off the water to the bathroom and said "very big problem"!! (yeah don't I know it!!) Told me not to use bathroom and he'd be back later in the day to check if it was still leaking. Came back around 6pm and decided it was coming from the shower! (not sure how he figured that out when he hasn't taken any tiles off in there yet! So he left telling me he'd be back at 11am the next morning.

In amongst all that I got Aaron's farewell cake made and iced :-)

Thursday morning Maddison entertained Samuel while I was cooking breakfast showing him all the contents of a goodie bag she'd gotten the day before at school.

Aunty Irene arrived about 10am and about 20 past we went down to school for Aaron's farewell party. Here's the cake! (not quite the racing track he requested, but he was happy with it - mainly because it had hot wheels cars on it!).

There's 2 groups the same age and they combined for his party. Here he's sitting in a circle with all his friends (concentrating obviously by the looks of his tongue!) and the teacher was telling them that it was Aaron's farewell because he was going to an international school and "Aunty" (that's me hehee) had made a cake and goodie bags for them :-) They sung "for he's a jolly good fellow" and then he had to pick a song for them to sing and he chose twinkle twinkle little star. After that he had to stand in the middle of the circle and each of the kids got up one at a time and gave him a hug and they were supposed to say something to him like "thanks for being my friend", "goodbye we'll miss you" etc. But they were all as goofy as he was and basically took turns at dashing up, giving him a quick as hug, and dashing back to their place in the circle hehee :-) It was very sweet to watch actually.

This little guy is now 10 weeks old and already he has cottoned on that if I have the camera he doesn't smile! If I want to catch him smiling then someone else needs to take the photo!
After school on Thursday Aunty Irene gave Maddison her birthday present. It deserved a big hug :-)
She played with it for ages. It has little people, tables and chairs, etc. Lots of fun!

I managed to get the "princess " cake in the oven before she got home from school and I iced it after the kids went to bed. It would have been so much easy with a dolly varden cake tin! I didn't know where to put the dolls hands because she looked silly with them straight out in front of her and I couldn't put them down because of the "hoops" in her skirt hehee :-)

I think she might be doing a sort of dance and is in the midst of a curtsy that's why her skirt is so full! (does that sound believable?) :-) Anyway Maddison was pretty chuffed with it, so that's the main thing.

The air conditioning people have been this afternoon and cleaned all the air con units, so hopefully we won't have any more leaks!

The plumber never arrived at 11am on Thursday and I never heard from him at all, so he got a phone call from me this morning and a bit of a not so gentle reminder not to say he'd be here at a certain time and then not show! I roll my eyes when I phone him now because as soon as I say who it is he immediately starts telling me all the excuses! I don't even need to say anything! But I am over the excuses, just get the jolly leak found and then fixed! He came late afternoon today and told me he's been trying to contact the owner of the apartment next to us so he can drill in from the wall there backing on to our shower cubicle! Hummm sounds a bit suspicious to me (he just doesn't want to wreck any more marble tiles!!). I told him that if I was the person that owned that apartment next door I wouldn't want him drilling the wall to bits just to fix the neighbors leak! But then he had a good point ... it will be leaking through their wall as well. So I suppose he has a reasonable excuse to annoy them! Unfortunately for us (or them!) they must be away because the plumber hasn't managed to make contact with them yet. Anyway he's told me I can use the bathroom, just to turn the water off when we aren't using it.

Lyndons flight was delayed over an hour leaving Korea today, but thankfully he managed to get his connecting flight at Bangkok and has landed in KL already. Just waiting for him to arrive home now :-)

Okay I am off to have a think about a special little girl's 3rd birthday card I need to make!

Intense ...

That's what this week is going to be! VERY intense!

.

Lyndon got a phone call, and I got an email(!), late this morning to say that Aaron had been accepted into the International School we enrolled him in at the beginning of the year. He had an assessment in April and we were told that he was on a waiting list due to there only being a few places left and they had gone to students who already had siblings at the school. So 2 and a half weeks before the new school year starts we get told he's in! PANIC ... that means this is his last week at Montessori school (they are on holiday for 2 and a half weeks from Friday). I felt like I should be breathing into a paper bag at one stage today ... I managed to eat half a cake of chocolate instead!!! :-) Made me feel better at the time ... scales won't like me tomorrow though will they! LOL

.

So a few bullet points of what's on the agenda this week:

• Lyndon is off to Korea today for the week
• Samuel has a Dr's appointment tomorrow (which I have left a message to postpone yet again, but haven't heard back from them yet)
• Maddison's 3rd birthday is next weekend, so she's having the MUCH requested "Princess" cake, made by yours truly, at school on Friday before they go on holiday.
• I need to do goodie bags for the kids in her class (thankfully there's only 7)
• I need to make another cake for Aaron's leaving party at school ... have asked for it to be Thursday since I can't be in both his and Maddison's class at the same time taking photos (and besides I don't want to be up all night icing two cakes!!)
• I need to do goodie bags for his class mates as well (24 of them! help us ... and Aaron has requested that the boys get hot wheel cars in their bags!!) (Yes sir!)
• The email from the international school said that the uniform shop is open on Thursday for a few hours ... so I need to phone them tomorrow and see if it's open any other time!
• I also need to find out what his new school hours will be and the details on him catching a bus
• I need to remember to breath deep ... slowly in and out!
• And maybe eat chocolate!
• This afternoon the kids and I went down to the local supermarket and they chose goodie bags, Princess ones for the girls and Cars ones for the boys. When I went to pay their visa machine wasn't working and I didn't have enough cash. So gave them what I did have and now I have to go back tomorrow morning to pay the rest! (Typical!)
• I have 2 birthday cards to make this week - one for a school friend of Aaron's and one for Maddison.
• I need to finally move back into our bedroom now the floors are all finished, and also because Aunty Irene might be coming for a sleepover on Thursday.

I am going to be caked out by the end of the week!

The fun doesn't stop there though. As if I didn't have enough going on. You know a couple of months ago we had a leak in the bathroom, well on Saturday they guys came back to remove the excess glue from the new replacement floor and now that job is finally complete. Nearly 2 months later!

.

You want to know what happened on Sunday ....

Our main bathroom of our master bedroom has a leak under the vanity!

It's leaking from the wall, coming out through the grouting in the marble. Thankfully though the entire bathroom is a wet area, so that's not such an issue. But we have to keep turning the water off to the bathroom when we aren't using the shower otherwise there's roughly about 2 buckets of water on the floor within the space of 2 hours!

.

So now starts the very slow painful process of getting that leak fixed! Sigh ...

.

The maintenance manager came this morning to check it out and has already told me they don't have that colour marble tile in stock anymore so it will be different! (wonder what the landlord will say to that!)

.

More chocolate I say.

So Tuesday is going to go something like this ...

• Let the maid in (hehehee)
• Get the kids to school
• Try phoning Dr's again to make sure I can cancel Samuel's appointment (otherwise my day is going to be totally stuffed)
• Walk down to Supermarket to pay the rest of money I owe
• Walk home
• Feed Samuel again
• Put Samuel to bed
• Wait till he's asleep :-) (and hopefully he will stay asleep for the maid)
• Eat some chocolate
• Dash out in the car to buy -
  - enough hot wheels cars for little boys goodie bags
  - something for little girls goodie bags (thinking of lip gloss)
  - more flour for cake baking
  
• Dash back home
• Inhale lunch (left overs)
• Feed Samuel
• Eat some more chocolate
• Pick up kids from school
• Phone International School
• Put together goodie bags (and put them out of reach from little miss nearly 3!)
• Organise snack & drink for the kids
• Collapse on the couch
• Think I really should be getting up and doing something about cooking dinner!!!
• Eat some chocolate instead!

And on it goes. Pretty ordinary day really I suppose ... somewhere in there I have to fit in doing some loads of washing and getting the maid to help me move Samuel's cot back into our room.

Just as well I don't have gardens to tend, lawns to mow and pets to look after aye! LOL

• Present time! Letting Maddison open her presents on Saturday rather than Sunday, her actual birthday, because we will be out and about on Sunday plus I want her to have a sleep in the afternoon. It would be too cruel to let her open her presents then tell her she has to have a sleep!
• Eat remainder of Princess Cake
• Have an early night!!

Right that's me over and out. I need to go and do the dishes, hang out the load of washing that's beeping to tell me it's finished, and head to bed.

Weekend Happenings

Floors got finished on Friday. So much for it only taking 2 hours in the morning! Ha ... they left about 4pm! Anyway the floors look good and they re-painted the skirting's and touched up the walls so it looks good. I can't say the same for the clean-up (they just used a dry cloth!). But anyway it was good to have it all finished and at least they had swept up most of the dust and wood shavings!

They were even kind enough to fix our front door ... here Maddison is checking out exactly what he's doing hehee Love her pose!

Friday night we went out for tea and afterwards spent some time at a toy shop, then Lyndon took me to a furniture shop that specialised in safes and cabinets. Aaron was very pleased with himself because he opened every single safe in the shop!! (so like his father!).

I loved the look of this little cabinet and immediately thought of storage for scrapbook embellishments ... Lyndon told me he thought it was a good watch storage cabinet. Hehehee ... can you tell we have different hobbies! ;-) (sorry for bad quality - took the photo with my phone)

The drawers were really deep - I didn't pull it out all the way.
Saturday ... Lyndon and Aaron went off to Tesco to stock up on nappies and cleaning supplies. Aaron decided he just had to spend some of his pocket money. So Lyndon helped him empty his piggy bank. I got all the 50cent pieces back to use in the dryer hehee (swapped them for notes :-) ). Aaron came home very happy with a hotwheels car. (I will save that for another post though.)
Sunday after lunch we tried (tried is the word!) to take some photos of the kids. Sure was interesting. I am VERY glad I wasn't paying professional photographer fees!

We got a few photos of Samuel then he decided to fill his nappy, singlet and the bouncer! So complete change of clothes and surrounds for him.
Then we moved on to a group photo of the 3 of them .... You can draw your own conclusions on how it went! LOL


Changed to different pose ... Maddison does the cross eyed thing for most of the photos where Aaron is holding Samuel.

And when she's holding Samuel and finally looks at the camera Aaron tries to cross his eyes (he can't though ... this is what he thinks is a cross eyed look LOL).
Here's two of the better ones ... this ones needs some photo shop work done in the background though.

Ahh well ... it shows the kids as they are doesn't it! Aaron with a fake smile throughout, Maddison just being goofy pretty much the entire time and Samuel just lying there thoroughly over it all! ;-)

Glue Sniffing

I've been doing it all afternoon and can't say it's something that I could do full time!

.

FINALLY the floor people arrived just after 11am (I wasted 2 hours of the morning sitting around waiting for them! I could have had time to walk down to the supermarket and replenish my choc stash!!!). So floor in bedroom is looking good - here's a progress pic.

Outside in the corridor it looks like this!!! What a mess! They have been sawing the boards to the correct length out here.

Apart from sniffing glue (the contact adhesive they are putting on the base of the boards) I have been a door closer today! Honestly I was getting rather cross that it took 4 hours for the 6 guys that have been working here to get the hint (even with me asking several times nicely) that I would like the front door closed and the bedroom door closed. I've had the air con on in the lounge but it's been working hard because every time they leave the front door open huge blasts of hot air come in. And we get glue fumes from the bedroom door being left open! How the men work with that smell all day is beyond me. It's awful.

Samuel has been sleeping in the pram this afternoon as it was too close to the hammering noise in his cot. He looks like a little frog spread out in there! ;-)

He's also spent time snuggling (or should I say smothered!) with Maddison on the couch :-)
Two little dummy munchers! (Excuse Maddison's filthy face - she'd been eating choc biscuits and got choc all over the place!)
So as I am typing this now they are hammering the skirting boards in place and hopefully cleaning up the mess!! So best go and make sure they are doing a good job of it :-) heheee

** Edited ... Bother it! I spoke too soon. 5pm came and they all left! Grrrr So they will be back tomorrow to finish the skirting's, paint them and hopefully CLEAN before shifting the furniture back into the room. I can hardly wait (said in mocking tone!).

Wild Wednesday

Well yesterday didn't suit for the maintenance man to rip up the floors in our bedroom, so they said they'd come today and be finished, with new flooring down, by Thursday (this week!).

.

This morning started out sort of slowly ... Lyndon was a bit reluctant to leave the bed to visit Mr Gym, but he made it there eventually! ;-) Samuel woke for another feed at 5.50am, Maddison was up at 7am and Aaron at 7.30am.

.

During breakfast Aaron was very quiet and had flushed cheeks ... I took his temperature but it was fine. I should have known instantly what was wrong! Anyway he'd had about 2 mouthfuls of his porridge and complained of a sore neck. By questioning him we worked out it was his throat that was sore. So gave him some medicine ... 10 minutes after that he threw up everywhere. Yep ... I should have known ... over tired. When does he ever sit at breakfast QUIETLY??? I think the sore throat is just a side issue - he's tired and when he's tired he throws up. Nice ... (not).

.

So he sat on the floor in his bedroom with a big bowl while I took Maddison to school with Samuel snoozing in my arms. So glad that school is just downstairs of our building!

.

Fed Samuel put him to bed, got Aaron settled into bed ...

watching Tom & Jerry and then the maintenance men arrived to start ripping the floor boards up. What a noise! And the dust!!! I didn't realise they were going to saw it up!

.

So much for Samuel having a sleep! (he's frowning here ... no closed eyes!)

If I had known there was going to be so much dust I would have asked for our wardrobe to be sealed off with plastic sheeting! Oh well ... live and learn (I'll know for next time won't I!).

I've already had the maintenance manager up here because the young guy who's doing the floor has been smoking in our room. I was not amused! I went in there as soon as I smelt it but he'd obviously finished! So I told him "no smoking - go outside". But I wasn't sure he understood me as his English is pretty basic, and my kiwi accent is difficult for them to understand hehee. So I phoned the manager and asked him to make sure he understood that he had to go outside if he was going to smoke. Meanwhile I have the air purifier going flat out!!

.

And amongst all this we have no gas to the stove as they are upgrading the gas lines into the condo so we are "gasless" till Friday night!

.

The joys of apartment living. :-)

Didn't get any scrapping done last night either! Samuel decided he would rather feed than sleep! (I tried though hehee.)

Fathers Day & other things ...

In this part of the world Father's Day is celebrated in June ... yesterday actually. :-) On Friday the kids bought home from school some things they had made. Aaron had painted a photo frame and made a card and Maddison had coloured in a picture and made a tie :-)

.

Yesterday the kids weren't in any sort of mood to be picture taking, so we did it this morning in between eating breakfast & Lyndon heading out the door for work! (No he didn't wear the tie to work ... he should of though shouldn't he!! :-) It's made of felt with pipe cleaners to bend around the neck hehee.)

And no matter how many times we pull Maddison's skirt or dress down for photos she always moves so it's all rucked up! Sigh!

.

Here's the card Aaron made with a neat picture of Daddy & Aaron on it ... Aaron is on the left wearing a red top (or cape and is that a crown on his head?? LOL) and Daddy is the much larger person with the huge pink "loin cloth". :-) heheee Love how Aaron draws fingers at the ends of the arms - there's no hand hehee :-)

On Saturday afternoon Lyndon and Aaron went off to a mall to do a few things. I stayed home with the 2 little ones. Aaron came home with this bunch of lilies and thrust them at me and said "Aaron's a good boy Mummy"!! heheee The flowers are beautiful they have little pink spots on the petals ... almost like someone has sprinkled jelly crystals on them! :-)

And an update on the floor replacement that was "supposed" to be happening this morning! Honestly I just can't believe it. 10am the doorbell rings and I think to myself, great they are here to rip up the floorboards. NOPE ... it's just the maintenance manager telling me that the floor boards have arrived, but they are the wrong size, so they'll come back on Thursday and Friday to do the job! We have already moved 80% of the furniture out of our room and are sleeping the spare room, so I asked if the floor boards could be removed today or tomorrow and then replaced on Thursday when the new ones arrive, rather than waiting till the end of the week to do everything. At least if they are removed by tomorrow then they will hopefully remember they have a job to come back and finish!!! (huh is that wishful thinking or what??) Fingers (and toes) crossed that it will actually happen. Oh and lets not forget the replacement of the water cylinder element! Lyndon got a call from the contractor last week saying they would be here at 2pm today to replace it! We'll see is all I can say.

.

At least the maintenance manager came to tell me that they weren't going to be here this morning. That's an improvement! Usually they don't bother telling you and you have to phone to ask where they are.

.

Excuses ...

I AM SICK OF THEM!

.

I shall vent my frustrations here since Samuel is sleeping and I can't yell! ;-) I don't mind excuses ... I use them myself on occasions. But right now I've had enough.

.

Yesterday afternoon was "supposed" to be busy around here!

.

The plumber/tiler man was supposed to come at 1.30pm to fix the tiles. He turned up at 3.15pm ... "So sorry Ma'am I had a car accident and my car is on the side of the highway with all my tools inside. I can not fix your tiles today. I come tomorrow. What time convenient?"

.

Okay ... I can handle that. Accidents do happen!! So we agreed upon 10am this morning.

.

Between 5.30 and 6pm the Maintenance Manager was going to come with a contractor to replace the water cylinder element in our bathroom. I phoned him at 6pm to ask how far away he was. "Oh we not coming, been a delay, you in a queue!"

.

Oh really ... I didn't notice!

.

So I politely (yes I was polite!) asked him when it would be fixed. "Oh next Tuesday"!! "WHAT - that's a whole week!" Okay, I can handle that too, so I asked him what time on Tuesday. "Next week on Tuesday Ma'am". "Yes next Tuesday, that's the 22nd, that's fine, but what time?". "Next Tuesday Ma'am". By this point I am getting a bit cross ... "Yes I get that ... but I want a TIME". (yeah my voice did rise a bit) "Oh in the afternoon Ma'am". At that point I gave up and just agreed that the afternoon was fine! 10 days without hot water in our main bathroom!

.

It's a jolly nuisance to be honest - not so much for me, but the kids can't have a bath (although thankfully the shower in "Grandmas bathroom" is a novelty at the moment - long may that last), but I can't fill the baby bath with warm water from the tap in the basin, so I have to use a jug! Sigh ... it's the little things that are annoying right! Oh well I can handle that too.

Today ...

10am came and went ... 11am came and went ... at 11.20am I phoned the plumber/tiler and asked if he was still coming this morning! "Oh we coming up to your place already Ma'am"! "Right - see you shortly then"!!

.

40 minutes later they arrived. Their excuse for not being here at 10am. "So sorry Ma'am, but this man's relative passed away and he's just travelled all the way here!" I just looked at him and said "Why didn't you phone me to tell me then?". "I lost your number". "You have C's (the Maintenance Man) number don't you? Why didn't you call him and ask him to tell me?" I got a blank look at that question!

.

The interesting thing is that they are working on the building next door and they actually park in the visitors car park of our building ... it doesn't take 40 minutes to walk here I can assure you of that!!! Let's hope they have white grouting today!

.

So now the apartment is filled with banging & hammering noises. Samuel is trying to sleep in his bouncer as the cot is on the other side of the wall that they are hammering! We are hiding out in the computer room till they are finished. Hopefully before it's time to get the kids from school. (I'm not holding my breath on that happening though!) As long as they clean up properly this time I will be happy!

In the meantime I think I will have partake of a little chocolate :-)

Things happen in 3's ...

First of all it was the broken pipe in the shower ... and now parts of our floor & wall look like this.

The pipe has been fixed and the tiles supposedly fixed (see this post). (Actually the contractor is coming back tomorrow to fix the tiles ... hopefully the grout will be white this time instead of cheating and using concrete - which by the way has all cracked and looks terrible.) Flooring in our room is being replaced next week and I have no idea when the wall is going to be repainted ... wait and see I guess.

.

2nd thing ... on Saturday night the power went out in our entire apartment. (It happened on Friday night, but it was the entire condo - no idea what that was about.) Anyway Lyndon checked the fuses and did some investigating and found that it was the hot water cylinder in our bathroom that was causing the power to go. So we switched that off and had to wait till today to get in touch with the maintenance man. He came this morning and when I told him what happened he said ... "oh common problem, heating element needs to be replaced!" I just looked at him and then said "so it's wired to shut off power to the entire apartment when the element goes rather than just the cylinder?" He just grinned at me! Hopefully that will be fixed tomorrow night! In the meantime we are using "Grandma's bathroom" heheee (that's what the kids call it) :-)

3rd thing ... this afternoon I was hanging up a shirt in our wardrobe and the entire bar fell down! All Lyndon's & my clothes in a crumpled heap ... what a mess! Good job I could fix that myself with a pair of pliers! hehee (I just wished that someone was there to take a photo of Maddison watching me fix it ... she was hanging onto my leg and peering up into the wardrobe saying "What you doing Mummy"? :-) I think she thought I was naughty getting the pliers out of Lyndon's toolbox! heheee)

I just keep thinking about the electrical wiring job and end up shaking my head! Last year when the kids and I were in NZ for 3 months and Lyndon was travelling a lot, he came back to the apartment to a terrible smell. One of the air con units had a fuse melt down and that tripped the power to the entire apartment ... I'll leave it to your imagination as to what the fridge/freezer contents were like. I can't remember exactly what time Lyndon arrived home, but it was late in the evening (around midnight I think) and he was flying out the next day again for another trip. So instead of repacking his bags and getting some rest he spent hours cleaning up the mess in and around and under the fridge/freezer. Disgusting.

It doesn't seem right to me to wire things up that if something goes wrong the power trips to the entire apartment! Oh well ... all part of life's little experiences I guess. LOL (I am just very glad we were at home when it happened so we didn't have another mess to clean up!)

Fingers crossed that we don't need to call the maintenance man again in the next while!
